Rolf Stewen

Rolf Wilhelm ( Wille ) Stewen ( September 15, 1927 Vilppula - August 10, 2012 Naantali ) was a Finnish officer, also known as a successful field and cross-country skier .

Stewen had military rank, Lieutenant General . He was Commander of the New Brigade Command from 1973 to 1976 and then Commander of the Southwest Finland War Zone. Prior to his studies, he worked for a few years in London as a military agent. Among other things, he was Chairman of the Board of the Finnish Foundation for the Foundation of the Marshal Mannerheim .

Stewen participated in the 1956 "Horse Racing Olympics ", which was held separately from the Melbourne Olympics, by a Lojal 40th Horse. In the 1992 Olympic Games, the Finnish Rider Association granted Stewen the No. 5 Champion Mark.

Stewen started riding at the age of 13 on the front in Aunus as a horseshit. At the age of 14, he started riding at the Helsinki City Hall on horseback rides . After completing the military service, he continued to the Cadets School in Santahamina , where the studies included riding. While serving in Ypäjä 1951-1952, Stewen was involved in training horses for the Helsinki Olympics` five players and was also elected as a substitute for the Finnish Field Rescue Team. For the following 1956 Olympic Games, Stewen was trained in both field and cross-country skiing, and the Selection Committee decided only late in his participation in the cross-country skiing. Stewen also participated Aachen`s international horse racing competitions in 1954.

Stewen`s studies continued in the 1950`s at the military academy both in Finland and in England, and riding was a hobby, though he competed at national level in field tracking in the 1970`s and in cross-country riding until the 1990s. He won the SM bronze medal in 1971. [1] He worked as a trustee for riding competitions largely in the 21st century, and after Adolf Ehrnrooth died, he annually awarded the Malja Circulation Prize by Ehrnrooth, which Ehrnrooth had donated to the Turku Malja Race Contest
